After its failure to appoint vice-chancellors of various universities including the Tribhuvan University, the government has assigned rectors and deans to work as acting VCs in four of them.

The government on Thursday appointed acting vice-chancellors of Tribhuvan, Nepal Sanskrit, Purbanchal, and Agriculture and Forestry universities. A meeting of chancellor of the universities, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and pro-chancellor, Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel, made the appointments.

Rectors Sudha Tripathi and Ramesh Dhakal have been made acting VCs of Tribhuvan and Nepal Sanskrit universities respectively. Likewise, senior deans Biju Kumar Thapaliya and Sharada Thapaliya have been given the responsibilities to lead Purbanchal, and Agriculture and Forestry universities respectively.

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to extend the tenure of the search committees formed to recommend VCs for the Tribhuvan and Nepal Sanskrit universities till September 6. It also decided to form similar committees for the other two institutions.
