Tribhuvan International Airport shuts down

Kathmandu, September 9

Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been completely shut down.

According to a senior official at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the airport was closed due to continuous incidents of fire in Gothatar and surrounding areas, along with other conditions that have increasingly posed risks to aviation safety.

Flights already in the air were allowed to land, but all remaining flights have been canceled, the official said.

The airport is currently under the security of the Nepal Army.
