TRC submits progress report to govt before appointment of new officials

Kathmandu, April 24

As the government prepares to appoint new officials for two transitional justice mechanisms, one of the twin commissions on Wednesday submitted its progress report to the government.

Truth and Reconciliation Commission submitted its report to Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, narrating the works it has done so far under the leadership of recently retired officials.

Because the chairperson and members already retired, acting secretary Gopi Chandra Bhattarai submitted the report.

On the occasion, Minister Dhakal directed the secretary and other staff to keep records of its progress safe and make its functioning more effective.

In response, Bhattarai said the Commission would expedite its works after the government appointed the new officials.

The government has formed a five member panel under the leadership of former chief justice Om Prakash Mishra to pick the officials.
