Kathmandu, September 30

Rabindra Adhikari, leader of the main opposition, CPN-UML, on Friday accused the Prachanda government of acting as a mute spectator instead of punishing transporters fleecing people heading home.

Adhikari, speaking in the Parliament, said people, who want to head home for Dashain, have not been able to get tickets because of unscrupulous transporters.

Transporters are saying they will not operate vehicles (during the festive season) if authorities prevent them from operating vehicles by carrying passengers beyond capacity, Adhikari said. The government has failed to punish such transporters, accusing the government and transporters of joining hands to cheat the public.

Why can’t the government cancel the registration and route permit of those transporters, who refuse to operate their vehicles on designated routes?

He questioned: Why cannot the government cancel the registration and route permit of those transporters, who refuse to operate their vehicles on designated routes?
