Traffic movement resumes along East-West Highway after 36 hours

Nawalparasi, August 20

The traffic movement along a section of the East-West Highway in Nawalpur district has resumed on Tuesday morning after a halt of 36 hours. The road has been opened for the one-way movement and efforts are underway to resume the two-way movement.

The road was obstructed after the water level in the rivulet increased, posing a threat that the diversion would be swept away. The water level decreased by this morning, hence the movement reopened, according to police.

The security personnel are repairing the diversion and the two-way traffic is likely to resume by the afternoon.

Earlier last week, the bridge above the rivulet had caved in after it was hit by a truck. Vehicles and passengers have been hit hard due to the obstruction in smooth movement since then.

Authorities have not made any initiatives to repair the bridge. Instead, a temporary diversion has been brought into operation.
