Nepali Congress General Secretary Shashanka Koirala says his party is holding talks with the CPN-Maoist Centre for partnership in upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections.

Koirala’s comment comes after the Maoist part has decided to expedite talks with the main opposition CPN-UML in a bid to form the alliance and explore if the unification of two parties is possible.

The leader says the Congress is under compulsion to form the alliance with other parties as its organisational strength has come down recently.

“The party should be able to win the polls if it chooses to contest solo,” he says, “Otherwise, there should be some alliance.”

He informs that Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal will hold a meeting to discuss the issue today.
