Sushila Karki, Ayodhi Prasad Yadav take oath as Nepal’s CJ, Chief Election Commissioner

Kathmandu, July 11

Newly-appointed Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav took the oath of office and secrecy at Sital Niwas, the Presidential Palace, on Monday.

Karki took the oath from President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. She has made history by becoming Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice.

After taking oath from President Bhandari, Chief Justice Karki administered the oath of office and secrecy to CEC Yadav. The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee had endorsed Karki and Yadav as Chief Justice and Chief Election Commissioner, on Sunday and Friday, respectively.

Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar, leader of the main opposition Sher Bahadur Deuba, Supreme Court justices, Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi, chiefs of constitutional bodies and security agencies as well as Nepal Bar Association’s office-bearers were present on the occasion.
