Supreme Court tells govt to expand PCR tests

Kathmandu, May 14

The Supreme Court has ordered the government to expand the range of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for coronavirus so as to save the maximum number of people from the outbreak.

A single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma issued the order on Thursday in response to a writ petition filed by advocate Kamal Bahadur Khatri. Though the petitioner had also demanded that the court issue an interim order, the justice did not issue an interim order.

Instead, a show-cause order has been issued and the defendant (the concerned government agencies) have been told to explain in the next 15 days why the PCR tests have not been expanded so far.
