Supreme Court says Resham Chaudhary’s writ refusal was right

File: Resham Lal Chaudhary

Kathmandu, December 24

The Supreme Court on Sunday has said its Registrar General’s decision to deny the registration of a writ by newly elected lawmaker Resham Lal Chaudhary demanding his election certificate through his agent was right and legitimate.

After the court official denied the registration, Chaduary had filed another petition against the act. But, a single bench of Justice Tanka Bahadur Moktan today said the refusal was made following due procedures.

A suspect behind the 2015 Tikapur killing, Chaudhary is on the most wanted list of Nepal Police and the Registrar had denied registering his petition through the agent saying crime suspects cannot appoint agents.

Moktan’s bench has maintained today that no one who is avoiding legal trials should be allowed to enjoy facilities provided by the law, otherwise it would promote impunity.

With the verdict today, Chaudhary’s attempt to take the oath as a lawmaker and attend Parliament meetings has failed.
