Kathmandu, November 11
At least six lawyers have sustained injuries during a clash with police at the Supreme Court, in Kathmandu, on Thursday.
For the past few weeks, the Nepal Bar Association, the umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers, has continued a demonstration inside the court premises demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana as he has been accused of partnering with the executive on various occasions during the premiership of KP Sharma Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba. But, Rana is adamant against the demand.
During the demonstration today, a clash ensued as police tried to contain the demonstration. In the process, six lawyers have been injured, informs advocate Tikaram Bhattarai.
The injured are the NBA general secretary Leela Mani Paudyal, vice-president Raksha Basyal, and advocates Kumar Sharma Acharya, Raman Karna, Mukunda Bhattarai and Prakash Maharjan.
Bhattarai says the police had baton-charged them.
