Supporters of Durga Prasai set fire to 3 trucks in Jhapa

Biratnagar, September 23

In response to the recent arrest of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, his supporters have resorted to arson, setting fire to three trucks in the Jhapa district.

Prasai, who operates B & C Hospital, was taken into custody by the police on Sunday. In protest, his supporters targeted three trucks with Indian license plates, setting them ablaze at different locations across Jhapa, as reported by police sources.

According to Bhim Bahadur Dahal, the SSP and spokesperson for Koshi Province Police, the incidents occurred on Sunday night in separate locations. Investigations are currently underway to identify those involved in the arson.

The first truck, bearing the license plate UP-57 AT-4493, was set on fire on the Biring River bridge in Kankai Municipality-8, along the East-West Highway. This incident took place on Sunday night.

The second incident was reported on Monday morning in Birtamod Municipality-6, where a truck with the license plate WB-73-E-3057 was torched. The third truck, with the license plate WB-73-E-3056, was set ablaze in Dhaijan, Jhapa. All three trucks sustained significant damage due to the fires.

Supporters of Prasai had also announced a transportation strike in Jhapa on Monday. However, despite their announcement, vehicle movement in the area remained unaffected and continued normally, according to SSP Dahal.
