Children from Sunwal municipality, Nepal’s first child-friendly municipality, have handed over to comedians Sitaram Kattel aka Dhurmus and Kunjana Ghimire aka Suntali a check bearing Rs 1.2 lakh for the development of their pet project — Giranchaur integrated settlement development project in Sindhupalchok — meant for rehabilitation of earthquake victims.

Sunwal-based 117 child clubs collected the sum and handed it over to the duo of Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation. Bipana Sharma, founder president of Sunwalnagar Child Club, said they decided to help with the development of Giranchaur as the comedians plan to develop it as Nepal’s first child-friendly, disabled-friendly and environment-friendly integrated settlement.

A group of children from Sunwal visited Giranchaur to hand over the sum. Barsha Gaire, chair of Sunwalnagar Children’s Network, said they felt happy on being able to hand over the sum collected from every household in Sunwal with cooperation from Sunwal municipality.  This shows even children can provide assistance to the needy, she said.

While receiving the assistance, Sitaram Kattel, chair of Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation, lauded the children for their assistance.  Kattel said they have made a pledge to develop Giranchaur as a child-friendly integrated settlement.
