Hetaunda, January 13
The Bagmati provincial government has announced a public holiday on January 24 on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar, a major festival of the Tamang community. Tamang is one of the biggest ethnic groups in the province.
A meeting of the Provincial Council of Ministers held on Monday morning made the decision, according to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Shalik Ram Jamakattel.
The meeting made six other decisions, informs the Minister for Financial Affairs and Planning, Kailash Dhungel.
This is the first time that the government held its Cabinet meeting after the province was named Bagmati. A Provincial Assembly meeting held on Sunday had unanimously decided the new name for the province.
