Kathmandu, March 26

As the level of air pollution increased in the Kathmandu valley, smog has halted several flights from and to the Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday.

Officials at the TIA say they experienced low visibility from the early morning today, the number of flights declined.

Most of the flights going to Bharatpur have been delayed. The Kathmandu-Bharatpur route had experienced some problems on Thursday also.

Experts say the smoke from various wildfire incidents in many places of Terai has further polluted the already dirty atmosphere in Kathmandu.

Meteorologist Ngamindra Dahal says dust particles even from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana states of India have come to Kathmandu now.

The Department of Environment Spokesperson Indu Bikram Joshi says the pollution level in Kathmandu can decrease if there are winds now.
