Sindhupalchok on high alert after Covid-19 death

The market area in Sindhupalchok district has been closed since Sunday, May 17, 2020.

Kathmandu, May 17

After a resident of Barhabise municipality of Sindhupalchok died of Covid-19, officials in the district have sealed off four settlements in the town. Nepal Army personnel have been mobilised to restrict locals’ movement so as to control the further spread of the outbreak.

The Barhabise municipality deputy mayor Sushila Pakhrin says the army personnel have been mobilised in wards 8 and 9 of the municipality, and wards 7 and 8 of Balephi rural municipality.

The market area in Barhabise has been closed since Sunday morning. “Till now, we had been opening the market for a few hours to let the citizens buy daily essentials such as foodstuffs. But, we have completely closed the market today,” Pakhrin informs.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Population has sent a team to the district to take stock of the situation there.
