Kathmandu, November 27
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has endorsed the nomination of senior advocate Ram Prasad Shrestha for the position of a member of the Judicial Council.
Earlier, the umbrella organisation of Nepali lawyers, Nepal Bar Association, had nominated Shrestha for the position.
A meeting of the committee held on Friday endorsed Shrestha unanimously. During the meeting, Shrestha had presented a plan of action for his four-year term.
The council is responsible for recruitment, transfer, and promotion of judges and other judicial staff.
Although Shrestha got an unopposed endorsement today, the ruling party was divided about his nomination initially. It was reported that the faction led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had proposed Mahesh Dahal to represent the Bar Association to the council.
Later, the association had voted for Shrestha.
