13 proposed ambassadors face parliamentary hearing from today

The parliamentary hearing process for 13 individuals recommended as ambassadors to various countries will begin on Tuesday.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, a meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee scheduled for 11:15 am will distribute the complaints filed against the proposed ambassadors among committee members. The work plans submitted by the nominees will also be distributed to the members.

Seven complaints have been filed against the 13 proposed ambassadors. Two complaints have been filed against all 13 nominees, while five complaints have been filed against individual nominees.

The government had recommended the 13 ambassadors at a Cabinet meeting held on September 18. The Parliamentary Hearing Committee subsequently initiated the process for their hearings.

The government has recommended Dr Nischal Nath Pandey as ambassador to India, Dr Kalyan Raj Sharma to China, Chiran Jung Thapa to the United States and former army chief Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana to the United Kingdom.

Similarly, Jijyan Kumar Thapa has been recommended as ambassador to Japan, Suresh Kumar Karn to Israel, Prapti Sherchan to Spain, Sharu Joshi to Germany, Dr Padmakshi Rana to Oman, Chudamani Kharel to Malaysia, Prof Dr Sangam Shrestha to South Korea, Dr Manchala Jha to Sri Lanka and Giri Bahadur Sunar to Saudi Arabia.

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee is responsible for conducting hearings on individuals recommended for appointment as ambassadors under Article 292 of the Constitution.
