Jajarkot, June 6
Seven yarsagumba pickers have died in Dolpa district of Karnali in past two weeks.
While five died of altitude sickness, two fell off a cliff while plucking the expensive herb.
District Police Office informs that Gopal Bista, Ramesh Chalaune, Krishna BK, Krishna Bahadur Shahi and Dhalakala Budha died due to altitude sickness whereas Jaykrishna Pande and Buddhi Kumari Karki fell off a cliff.
Police also said that a toddler also died due to altitude sickness.
Even though health camps have been setup in various areas, the number of those losing life is growing. Over a dozen yarsa pickers have been receiving treatment.
There are more than 70 highland meadows opened for yarsa picking in Dolpa.
