Security agencies testing personnel for coronavirus on their own

File: Coronavirus tests are underway at a lab in Nepalgunj.

Kathmandu, July 2

Three security agencies of the country–Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army–are preparing to conduct PCR tests for coronavirus among their personnel on their own.

The agencies launched the preparations after the number of infected personnel increased whereas the government still failed to improve the pace of tests.

Nepal Army has recently published a call for tenders to instal the PCR test equipment at its hospital in Chhauni. Likewise, the Armed Police Force has also called for tenders, informs DSP Dr Praveen Nepal at APF Hospital.

Nepal Police, however, has already installed the machine at its hospital. IGP Thakur Prasad Gyawaly inaugurated the lab service on Wednesday. “However, some technical issues are yet to be fixed. It will come into operation after a few days,” informs SSP Sanjaya Shrestha at the Nepal Police Hospital.

The police organisation is under pressure to launch the service as quickly as possible after some courts have decided not to conduct hearing with any suspect of a criminal case unless the suspects are proved to be coronavirus-free.
