Kathmandu, July 14

Tussle between top leaders of Nepal’s Hindu nationalist Rastriaya Prajatantra Party is escalating following a poor show in the two rounds of local elections.

Senior leader of the party Pashupati Shamsher Rana says the party is not the personal property of President Kamal Thapa, but he is acting as if it were so. Rana, in a statement on Friday, said Thapa nominated 42 people to the central committee without consulting anyone.

“I have come to know from news reports that Kamal Thapa nominated 42 people to the central committee,” he said adding that his serious attention was drawn towards the reports.

The President (Thapa) appointed the 42 people without keeping in mind the need to include Madheshis, women and members of the indigenous in the committee, Rana said.

He had demanded that Thapa revoke his decision immediately.

A meeting of the central committee has been scheduled for Wednesday.
