RJPN protests won’t affect June 28 polls, says CEC Yadav

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav speaks with journalist in Biratnagar on Monday, June 12, 2017.

Kathmandu, June 12

Chief Election Officer Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said the protests announced by Rastriya Janata Party Nepal will not affect the second phase of local level elections scheduled for June 28.

Speaking with journalists in Biratnagar of Morang district today, Yadav has said voters will walk to the voting booths despite the general shutdown called by the agitating party. The Commission has expected a higher voter turnout, according to Yadav.

He therefore said the polls would not be deferred again.

“The Election Commission is at the final phase of preparations for the June 28 polls,” he said, “The polls will be held on the same date in all provinces.”

“The date cannot be changed now.”
