The water level in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa has risen again since early Sunday morning, prompting authorities to urge rescuers and people living along the riverbanks to remain alert.
The warning comes as search and rescue operations continue for people affected by the flood that entered from the Tibet side on August 26.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) issued a notice urging caution after receiving information that the flood flow in the Bhotekoshi had increased further.
“Information has been received that the flood flow in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa has increased further. All those involved in search, rescue and relief operations in affected areas including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan, as well as those living along riverbanks and all concerned, are requested to remain alert,” the authority said.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the water level in the Trishuli River in Dhading has risen three metres above the danger level.
The rise in the Trishuli’s water level has been attributed to flooding originating from the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa.
The division has also warned of rising water levels in the Narayani River and its tributaries after heavy rainfall was recorded in several watersheds in Gandaki Province. People living along the riverbanks have been advised to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the water level at the Khurkot hydrological station on the Sunkoshi River in Sindhuli has also crossed the alert level, according to the Flood Forecasting Division.
Authorities have urged rescue teams and communities in downstream areas to exercise caution as search, rescue and relief operations continue in areas affected by the earlier Bhotekoshi flood.
