Mustang, February 5
A local level has proposed the relocation of a voting centre in Mustang district, citing adverse weather on March 5. Sangta voting centre of Baragaun Muktinath rural municipality-5 in Mustang district has been proposed for relocation.
The ward office made such a proposal, arguing that snowfall and extreme cold would affect the voting in the centre on the proposed date. Sangta village is located near the Mustang-Dolpa border. It is a settlement of 13 households. The village has 39 voters for the upcoming election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 5.
Ward member Tshering Palsang Gurung shared that a letter was sent to the bodies concerned to shift the voting centre of Himali Basic School. He added that most of the locals of Sangtan village are now at their relatives’ houses at Phalyak Dhakarjung, Kagbeni and Jomson to avoid snowfall and chilling cold.
The Mustang-Dolpa road reaching Sangtan village has been obstructed for the past month due to snowfall. The people of Sangtan village are planning to return to their village only in May. In response to the request of the villagers, the ward office sent a proposal to the District Security Committee, Office of Chief Returning Officer and District Election Office to relocate the voting centre.
