Redmi 9A Sport is yet another budget smartphone released from Xiaomi in Nepal.

It is also another addition to the Redmi 9 series. Not long ago, Xiaomi also released Redmi 9 Activ, another budget smartphone, here in Nepal. Redmi 9A Sport shares similar specifications with 9 Activ. This phone too was released earlier in India but has only made its way in Nepal now.

This is a pretty basic phone that can only be used for basic purposes and nothing fancy can be expected from it. It has a simple camera setup, a simple processor and a basic storage option. The battery backup of the phone is good though and can get you throughout the day or two. This is the biggest strength of the phone.

Redmi 9A Sport has a plastic back, a plastic frame and a glass front. The back of the phone flaunts an Aura design that provides an additional grip on the phone. The phone has an elegant design and nothing is overdone to make it look flashy. The phone weighs around 194 grams and is 9mm thick. The phone has a P2i nano-coating that protects the phone from water splashes and spills.

There is a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display on the phone with a maximum resolution of 720*1,600 pixels. The display has a typical brightness of 400 nits. The phone also has a reading mode that protects the eyes and reduces harmful blue light for an enhanced reading experience. Furthermore, the phone also has an AI face unlock feature, but there is no fingerprint sensor.

There is nothing fancy in the camera section of Redmi 9A Sport as it only features an ordinary setup. It features a 13MP camera on the back and a 5MP camera on the front. The camera on the back is housed together with an LED flash.

Nothing extraordinary can be expected from the camera,s but the main camera manages to capture 1080p resolution videos in 60fps. The front camera can capture videos in 1080p as well but is limited to 30fps only.

Redmi 9A Sport runs on MIUI 12 based on Android 10 and is powered by MediaTek Helio G25 chipset. The graphics of the phone are handled by ARM GE8320. This chipset offers a reliable smartphone experience for the user’s experience with smooth browsing, messaging and video calling.

It also features HyperEngine Game Technology, which ensures the loading of games faster and has smooth gameplay. However, only basic games can be played here and one cannot expect to play popular high graphical games like PUBG and Freefire on this phone.

Redmi 9A Sport gets its power from a 5,000mAh non-removable Li-ion battery. The company claims this power should provide the user 162 hours of music, 31 hours of calls, 25.5 hours of videos and 11 hours of gaming. The company also claims that the phone can be used daily for more than 2.5 years without any notable degradation to the battery, which in fact is a bold claim.

Storage, connectivity and price

Redmi 9A Sport comes with either 2GB or 3GB of RAM and both variants have 32GB of internal storage. The storage of the phone can be expanded with a micro SD card and the phone has a dedicated spot for it.

Both cards on the phone have access to 4G connectivity. The phone supports 2.4G Wi-Fi and also has Bluetooth 5.0. The phone also offers a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio connectivity.

The price of Redmi 9A Sport is Rs 12,999 for the 2/32GB variant and Rs 13,999 for the 3/32GB variant.
