A returning officer deployed in Kalika Rural Municipality of Rasuwa district was found hanging in a noose on Tuesday morning and has been rushed to Kathmandu for treatment.

Police said Santosh Giri has been airlifted to the Capital this morning after he was found hanging at local Kalika Guest House at around 4:15 am today.

Dr Manoj Rimal of City Hospital in Bidur, who had examined the doctor in Nuwakot, said his condition was critical.

He had gone to bed after completing preparations for nominations of candidates for local level elections scheduled for today.

Giri, a government attorney at the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons,  was appointed the returning officer for the rural municipality for upcoming local level elections.

Meanwhile, another official has been appointed in Giri’s place to register nominations of candidates today after the apparent suicide attempt case.
