Kathmandu, October 11

Road connectivity with Rasuwa has been restored after 47 days, following the construction of a Bailey bridge over the Phalakhu Khola in Betrawati, where floods on August 26 washed away both the old and new motorable bridges.

Traffic resumed after a modular Acrow bridge, commonly known as a Bailey bridge, was installed at the site of the destroyed bridges.

The Nepali Army completed the bridge in two weeks, reconnecting Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5 in Rasuwa with Bidur Municipality-10 in Nuwakot.

The bridge was formally opened in the presence of Bidur Mayor Rajan Shrestha, Uttargaya Rural Municipality Chair Madhav Aryal, local representatives, Chief District Officer Shambhu Prasad Regmi and Nepali Army personnel.

The prolonged disruption had caused significant hardship for residents and travellers. With road links to Nuwakot and Kathmandu cut off, rescue and relief efforts for people displaced or affected by the floods had also become difficult.

The reopening has brought relief to local residents as the festive season approaches.

“We had to face a crisis we had never imagined because there was no road connectivity. With this bridge now in place, rehabilitation and daily life will become easier,” said Hari Krishna Devkota, chair of Kalika Rural Municipality in Rasuwa.
