Kathmandu, November 17
Province 1 Chief Minister Rajendra Rai has won the vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly meeting in Biratnagar on Wednesday.
Rai, who was appointed the chief executive of the province with the support of 49 lawmakers on November 2, was required to obtain the vote in 30 days as per the constitution.
During the vote held today, Rai received 50 votes in his favour from the 92-member assembly. Likewise, 29 votes were cast against him. Twelve lawmakers were absent and no one chose to stay neutral.
Whereas the Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN-Unified Socialist and Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal cast votes for him, the CPN-UML was against the new government.
