Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane is set to tour Madhesh districts to create an environment for holding the party’s long-delayed provincial convention.
The RSP held its central general convention without completing the provincial convention in Madhesh Province.
Among the eight districts in Madhesh, the party has elected new leadership only in Parsa. Conventions in the remaining districts have not been completed after disputes emerged during the process and the proceedings were suspended.
Most party structures under the district committees also remain without elected leadership.
While the RSP completed conventions in the other six provinces, it was unable to hold its provincial convention in Madhesh.
Lamichhane had said immediately after the central convention that he would personally visit Madhesh to facilitate the convention process. According to an RSP Madhesh Province lawmaker, Madhesh-based lawmakers met Lamichhane on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
During the meeting, Lamichhane informed them that he would begin visiting Madhesh districts after August 26.
“He informed us that he would travel from Chitwan through Thori in Parsa and visit the districts of Madhesh. The purpose of the visit is to facilitate the convention process,” the lawmaker who attended the meeting said.
The party’s Election Commission has already issued a circular directing local party bodies where conventions have not been held to restart the process.
Lamichhane’s planned tour is expected to focus on resolving internal disputes and creating the necessary environment to complete the pending organisational conventions in the province.
