R15 V3 BS6 in Nepal: The good bike comes with a bulky cost, that too at a bad timing

R15 V3 BS6

R15 V3 BS6 is the latest offering from Yamaha two-wheelers in Nepal.

R15 is probably the most loved and popular two-wheeler from Yamaha in Nepal. It flaunts a sporty look inspired by R1, which made the bike a popular choice especially among the youth. The bike was an instant hit from the very first version launched back around 12 years ago and since then, Yamaha has released several versions of the bike, which all fared very good on the market.

The BS4 variant of the bike was launched way back in Nepal, but since all the vehicles are getting less pollution-emitting new BS6 engines, Yamaha decided to bring the same bike with a new engine here in Nepal as well. The bike, besides its sporty look, is also good at performance, safety and mileage. Yet, the fact that advanced versions are already available in Nepal and that it is expensive might be big roadblocks to its journey.

Let’s get into the details of the bike.

R15 V3 BS6

R15 is one of the most iconic bikes from Yamaha in Nepal. This entry-level super sports bike has never failed to impress with its beautiful design. The latest version is no less. The R15 V3 BS6 has similar styling to that of the BS4 variant and there are no significant changes visually on the bike.

R15 V3 BS6

The R15 V3 BS6 offers an aerodynamic body design. At the front, it has a typical R15 design of twin LED headlamps, a short visor and rear-view mirrors mounted on the body panels. It has a muscular fuel tank and the body of the bike gets attractive graphics as well. On the rear end, it has a LED taillamp. The leaned seating position of the bike is sure to offer you a thrilling riding experience (not for the long rides though).

The R15 V3 BS6 measures 1990mm in length, 1135mm in height and 725mm in width. The seat height of the bike is 815mm, while the wheelbase measures 1325mm. The bike also has a ground clearance of 170mm, which is pretty good considering that this is a sports bike. The bike weighs around 142 kg and is available in three colour variants.

The R15 series has always been great at performance and is probably the best bike in 150cc in terms of performance. R15 V3 BS6 is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, BS6 compliant FI engine. This engine can generate a maximum power of 18.6PS at 10,000rpm and a maximum torque of 14.1Nm at 8500 pm.

The bike is also mated with a six-speed gearbox and can achieve a top speed up to 155 km, which is extremely fast for the 150cc category. Furthermore, the bike also gets Yamaha’s variable valve actuation (VVA) technology. This system provides torque for ease of use at lower RPMs ensuring a good amount of power and torque throughout the entire rev range. Though this is a power performing motorbike, it offers a decent mileage for the riders.

Safety and other features

R15 V3 BS6 features disc brakes at both ends. It gets a 282mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the back. The bike features a dual-channel ABS for further safety. It also features an assist and slipper clutch which will help reduce the weight of the clutch pull and provide low-stress shifting during deceleration. This also prevents excessive engine braking.

The bike gets the familiar delta box framing and an aluminium swingarm. Similarly, it has telescopic forks at the front and a Monocross link suspension at the rare end. It runs on 17-inch radial tubeless tyres, the front tyres measure at 100/80-17 while the back measures at 140/40-17.

Highlighting the main features of R15 V3 BS6, there are:

R15 V3 BS6
  • Racing instinct design
  • Dual-channel ABS
  • Dual disc brakes
  • BS6 compliant FI engine
  • Deltabox framing
  • VVA
  • Assist and slipper clutch
  • 6-speed transmission

The price of the Yamaha R15 V3 BS6 is Rs 509,900.

R15 has always been an excellent bike, not only in terms of design and looks but in terms of performance as well. With superb performance, it also provides good mileage and has all the safety features it needs. The R1 inspired design has always been awe-striking and the new versions of the bike have only got better with time, in terms of almost everything including the price.

Yet, the Rs 509,900 price tag on the bike is really expensive for a 150cc bike. With this price tag, R15 V3 BS6 gets competition from Yamaha’s own FZ25 and MT-15 BS6. It also gets competition from Honda’s CB Hornet 2.0, TVS Apache RTR 200 4V RTFI BS6, Baja Pulsar 200 NS FI ABS, Dominar 250 ABS and Suzuki Gixer SF 250. Except for the Dominar, all the bikes comes cheaper than R15.

All the bikes on the list are good-performing bikes and offer a great riding experience with their own unique features. This is also a weird release as the newer versions of the bike, R15 V4 and R15M, have already been released in India. They offer upgraded features as well as a different excitement to the riders. While the same bike is released here again with a new engine, the new version of the bike is already out there. With the new version already out, people might wait for its release rather than purchasing an expensive older version.
