Kathmandu, April 7

The Kathmandu police on Friday detained some meterbyaj victims who were staging a protest in front of Singhadarbar.

Although the protest of a group of people defrauded by local loan sharks ended after the government signed a five-point agreement with the group last Saturday and the government has already established an investigation commission, another group has come to the capital, saying the agreement was not sufficient.

During the protest, the demonstrators this afternoon violated the restriction zone, compelling the police to use force.

A leader of the protesters says at least 16 people have been detained.

Loan shark victims, mainly from districts of the southern plains, say local loan sharks have been duping them of millions of rupees in compound interests calculated in an unfair system locally known as the meterbyaj.
