Janakpurdham, November 3
The Chure and Forest Conservation Campaign staged a protest on Monday, accusing the Madhesh Province government of arbitrary and non-transparent transfers of employees at the Ministry of Forests and Environment and its subordinate agencies.
Campaign officials and members staged a one-hour sit-in outside the gate of Madhesh Bhawan, wearing black bands over their eyes.
They accused the provincial government of discriminating against employees in transfer decisions based on political connections and influence.
Campaign chairperson Sunil Kumar Yadav alleged that transfers of employees with political access had been halted, while only those without such connections had been transferred.
He said some transfers had been stopped on the orders of the chief minister and ministry officials, and demanded that the government disclose the reasons for those decisions and identify who was responsible.
Following the protest, the campaign submitted a seven-point memorandum to the province’s chief secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers.
The memorandum called for fair and transparent transfers of employees who had completed their required tenure, uniform transfer criteria across all agencies, correction of errors in transfer decisions and mandatory postings in districts different from employees’ previous workplaces.
The campaign also demanded an end to political protection and opaque dealings in transfer decisions, public disclosure of the reasons for halted transfers, and an end to discrimination and psychological pressure against women and newly recruited employees. It called on the government to ensure a respectful working environment.
Yadav gave the provincial government an ultimatum to address the demands before Deepawali. He warned that failure to do so would lead to more forceful sit-ins outside the ministry and the Chief Minister’s Office, followed by a decisive province-wide protest.
