Kathmandu, September 22
A protest has been held outside the Kirtipur Burn Hospital against the death of a driver who was burned when a bus caught fire in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.
The family of the deceased, Arjun Dong, along with the Independent Drivers’ Union Nepal, held the protest outside the hospital on Tuesday.
During the protest, Arjun’s two wives demanded justice for their husband and said action should be taken against those involved in the incident.
They said, “Our husband needs justice. We don’t need anything else. Those who forced him to die must also face action.”
The Independent Drivers’ Union has demanded a fair investigation into the incident and action against those responsible.
Union chairman Dhan Bahadur Shrestha told Onlinekhabar, “The mistreatment of drivers must stop. The wrongdoing against drivers must end. The deceased driver’s family must be given proper compensation. A drivers’ commission should also be formed to ensure a fair investigation into the incident. Those responsible must be punished.”
They held the protest chanting slogans including “Stop the oppression against drivers,” “Drivers must not be killed,” and “Give the driver justice.”
Arjun Dong of Makwanpur was injured when a bus caught fire in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, on Monday. He died at the burn hospital in Kirtipur later that night while undergoing treatment.
