Kathmandu, May 4
President Bidya Devi Bhandari will not cast her vote in local level elections scheduled for May 14 in order to maintain the dignity of her position, the President’s Office informs.
“Going to any voting centre means favouring a certain political party,” the President’s press advisor Madhav Sharma said, “The President is the protector of the constitution. Therefore, she will not vote.”
It is very likely that President Bhandari will be visiting Sri Lanka from May 13 for next five days to attend a Buddha Jayanti function in Kandy of the island nation.
A Cabinet meeting scheduled for today is likely to endorse the visit.
