Singer and actor Prashant Tamang passed away at 43

Kathmandu, January 11

Singer and actor Prashant Tamang has passed away. According to his close associate and film producer Rajesh Ghatani, Tamang died today at his residence in Delhi.

“He passed away this morning at his own apartment in Delhi,” Ghatani told Onlinekhabar. “It was a heart attack.”

Tamang, who rose to fame after winning Indian Idol, was widely popular in Nepal as well. Several Nepali songs sung by him had gained significant popularity.

The 43-year-old artist was also active in Nepali cinema as both an actor and a playback singer. He made his acting debut in Nepali films with Gorkhapaltan 2, directed by Narayan Rayamajhi. He first worked as a playback singer in the film Himmat 2.

Over the years, Tamang acted in films such as Angalo Mayako, Kin Mayama, Dhadkan Bhitra, Nishani, and Pardeshi Parts 1 and 2. As a playback singer, he contributed songs to films including Dil, Anmol Chhan, and Himmat 2.

He had also made his Bollywood debut with the Salman Khan-starrer Battle of Galwan. The film’s shooting has been completed, and Tamang was preparing for dubbing.

Born in Darjeeling, India, Prashant Tamang married air hostess Geeta Thapa in 2011. The couple has a daughter.

Before entering the entertainment industry, Tamang had also worked for some time as a constable with the Kolkata Police. His debut album, Dhanyabad, was released in 2007. Among his most popular songs are Bir Gorkhali and Asare Mahinama.

He had also acted in Nepal’s popular television series Tito Satya. Following the news of his death, tributes and messages of condolence have been pouring in on social media.
