Prachanda holding final talks on formation of national consensus government with Nepal PM Oli

Mao-meet

Kathmandu, July 11

The CPN-Maoist Centre has decided to hold what it called final and decisive talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on the formation of a national consensus government. The party has given the responsibility of holding talks with PM Oli to its Chair Prachanda.

The Maoist party made this decision at the meeting held at Prachanda’s residence in Lazimpat, on Monday morning.

Maoist leader Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ said the meeting decided to hold final and decisive talks with PM Oli on implementation of past agreements, probably referring to the nine-point deal and the three-point gentleman’s understanding.

He told Onlinekhabar that they would want to know whether or not PM Oli is serious about sticking to the commitments. He said the talks will take place on Monday itself.

The Maoist party has been seeking implementation of the nine-point deal reached about two months ago and what it calls a gentleman’s understanding, reached at the same time. According to Maoist leaders, transfer of power is the main agenda of the two deals.

The party has been seeking the formation of a unity government for implementation of the new constitution, distribution of relief to earthquake victims, post-quake reconstruction and completion of remaining tasks of the peace process.

Prachanda has been saying he is ready to accept leadership of any party in the unity government. He has said his party will not shy away from leading such a government, if other parties are supportive.
