Barsha Man Pun, leader of the ruling CPN-Maoist Centre, said on Monday the government’s main focus is on conducting local elections on schedule.

He described conducting civic polls as the sole priority of the Prachanda-led government for now.

Speaking at a gathering of volunteers affiliated to the party’s student wing, ANNISU-R, Pun said: Our party and government are working day in, day out to take disgruntled into confidence through Constitution amendment and conduct local elections.

Pun said the main opposition CPN-UML’s indifference towards resolution of Madhesh problems had left them surprised.

No matter what, the government will register a Constitution amendment proposal, Pun said, adding: We will see which side stands where once the proposal is registered.

On the occasion, youth leader of the Centre, Ramesh Malla, ANNISU-R Chair Narendra Neupane and Vice-chair Ram Chandra Adhikari, among others, spoke about the student union’s awareness programme.
