Prachanda calls for formation of national unity government

Kathmandu, March 6

UCPN-Maoist Chair Prachanda has said a national unity government is a must for national unity.

For speedy post-quake reconstruction work and for implementation of the new constitution, a consensus goernment is a must, he said while talking at a press conference that Revolutionary Journalists’ Association Chitwan had organised at Bharatpur Airport. After the Nepali Congress’ 13th general convention, a national government will take shape under incumbent prime minister KP Oli, Prachanda said.

The UCPN-Maoist is not in any bid to topple government, he said, pointing that the 16-point agreement has committed to forming a government under the leadership of Oli. He said such a consensus government will be in line with the spirit of thi agreement, he said and added that he is not desiring for the post of PM.

After Girija Prasad Koirala’s demise, I have to assume leadership for national unity and political stability, he said, adding: I am not desiring for important positions like Prime Minister and President.

Responding to a question, he said: This government took shape in difficult circumstances. So, it is pointless to say that the government’s performance is not satisfactory. On the issue of nationalism, this government has stood firm. Because of talks, the political situation is easing, giving rise to hope that government’s performance will be satisfactory.
