Police confiscate 600,000 surgical masks hoarded by Kathmandu traders

Police in Kathmandu on Sunday confiscated around 600,000 units of surgical masks allegedly hoarded by traders with a motive of black marketing taking the advantage of the novel coronavirus fears.

The police raided a storehouse in Bishnudevi, Satungal, Chandragiri municipality-10 of Kathmandu this morning and confiscated the masks. It has been learned that locals of Satungal found the storehouse set up in Rohit Shrestha’s house and sealed the house before informing the police. The law enforcement personnel raided the house this morning to find 175 sacks of masks.

Earlier in the past two days, police had confiscated 168,000 units of masks in Kapan and 78,000 units in Dallu of Kathmandu.

Police say they are investigating all the cases.
