Police bar Dr Govinda KC from TUTH, take him to Trauma Centre

File: Dr Govinda KC during a fast-unto-death

Kathmandu, September 22

Police have barred medical education reform activist, Dr Govinda KC, from continuing his fast-unto-death at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital of Kathmandu.

Instead, they forcefully took him to National Trauma Centre under Bir Hospital, informs the activist’s assistant Pritam Subedi.

Dr KC worked at the TU Institute of Medicine and TUTH as an orthopaedics professor and surgeon until he retired last year. But, the police barred him from staging his ongoing strike there.

Dr KC had launched the fast-unto-death at a temple in Jumla of Karnali on September 14. In the next few days, his health deteriorated but refused to receive any treatment unless his demands are met.

Following that, police on Saturday night forcefully took him to the hospital of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences. He was then taken to Nepalgunj on Monday and Kathmandu on Tuesday.
