Pokhara introduces law to enforce e-ticketing in public transportation

The card introduced by Pokhara metropolitan city to implement e-ticketing in the public transport sector.

Pokhara, January 29

The Pokhara metropolitan city in Kaski district of western Nepal has implemented an act to enforce e-ticketing in the public transportation sector. The sixth city council assembly concluded on Wednesday endorsed the Public Transport Management Act.

According to the act, all long-route and intra-city public vehicles that operate in the city government’s jurisdiction should issue tickets, either paper or electronic, but the paper tickets will have to be replaced by the electronic ones gradually.

Earlier last year, the city had introduced the system in around 800 public buses. Transport workers, however, had stopped using the system owing to different technical issues.

Now, with the law, the government is planning to reinforce the system with a specific law. Darshan Lama, the chair of the city’s ward number 12 committee who also heads a monitoring committee on e-ticketing, says the system will resume from March.
