Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Wednesday that preparations are afoot to amend the new Constitution right after the Chhath festival.

Prachanda said constructive talks are underway with different political parties, including the CPN-UML, regarding the Charter amendment.

Addressing the meeting of the CPN-Maoist Centre Parliamentary Party, Prachanda said constructive talks are underway with different political parties, including the CPN-UML, regarding the Charter amendment. He talked about his government’s plans to conduct civic elections in Chaitra (about five months from now).

Maoist lawmaker Rekha Sharma quoted Prachanda: All political parties agree on Constitution amendment. We are holding discussions on contents of the amendment. No matter what, government should conduct elections in Chaitra by amending the Constitution.

‘Homework is afoot to amend the Charter on issues like demarcation of provincial borders and citizenship. Amending the Charter on other issues save demarcation may not be that difficult.’

At the meeting, Prachanda said homework is afoot to amend the Charter on issues like demarcation of provincial borders and citizenship. He expressed confidence that amending the Charter on other issues save demarcation may not be that difficult.

Prachanda refuted claims that the government is not consulting political parties on Constitution amendment. Talks are going on with the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Madheshi Morcha, among others, on Charter amendment.

Prachanda also informed the meeting about his recent participation in BRICS-BIMSTEC Outreach Summit in Goa. In keeping with political leaders’ ‘standard practice’ of touting one’s visit as successful, Prachanda described his Goa visit as successful, full of achievements and good for Nepal.
