A Nepali mountaineering management company has informed that a Peruvian climber died on Mount Makalu while attempting the summit.

Richard Hidalgo died at Camp 2 (6500 m) of Mt Makalu (8,481 m), the fifth highest mountain of the world, according to Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd.

Hidalgo was in his bid to climb the summit without supplemental oxygen, and less support of Sherpa people.

The company says he was scheduled to reach the top this morning.

“According to the information received from the base camp, Richard had hiked to Camp 2 on Wednesday along with Sherpas who were acceding to the peak to fix the ropes,” the company informs, “At approximately 9 PM, Richard and the Sherpas had left for their personal tents after the meal.”

After fixing the ropes this morning, the Sherpas returned to Camp 2, but could not find their Peruvian mate. While examining the tent, they found him already dead.
