Patan Hospital, operating under the Patan Academy of Health Sciences in Lalitpur, is set to be upgraded.
The 600-bed hospital will be expanded into a 1,200-bed healthcare facility, with suggestions currently being collected for its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
A meeting held today and chaired by Dhirendra Kumar Pradhan, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Forests and Environment (MoFE), emphasised the need to develop physical infrastructure that ensures the delivery of quality healthcare services in an environmentally responsible manner.
Highlighting the hospital’s growing importance, Joint Secretary Pradhan stressed the timely completion of the upgrade project. Similarly, Ramesh Bahadur Basnet, Under Secretary at MoFE, stated that the construction of modern and environmentally friendly infrastructure should be prioritized during the expansion.
Located on 52 ropani of land in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-5, the hospital currently provides outpatient services to around 2,000 patients daily. Dr. Parash Kumar Acharya, Registrar of the Academy, said the hospital’s capacity is being enhanced to meet the growing patient flow.
Dr. Jyoti Prasad Gajurel, Chief of the Nepal Rural and Advancement Committee Pvt. Ltd., which is reviewing the EIA report, shared that the upgraded facility will feature a double basement and modern eight-storey buildings. The upgradation project is estimated to cost Rs 10 billion. Key concerns addressed in the EIA include waste management, traffic control, and the development of eco-friendly infrastructure.
