Over half dozen Sunsari settlements submerged

Inaruwa, July 6

Over half a dozen villages in Sunsari district have been flooded. Rains have swollen local rivers that have inundated the settlements, displacing scores of families.

At least 120 houses have been deluged at Harinagar Rural Municipality-2, 4 and 7, said local resident Abdul Kaiyum Khan. A Dalit settlement has been flooded in Bhokraha Rural Municipality-7.

Agricultural products, construction materials and other property have been destroyed in the disaster, locals said.

Vegetable farming on the riverbanks has been destroyed. Sixty sacks of cement and other construction materials deposited to construct a building were swept away, said Aiyub Miya, a local contractor.

A clooding caused by continuous rains obstructed the local Harinagara-Basantapur road. Children in the locality are finding it difficult to appear in their school examinations as a result, said parents.

The District Police Office said police personnel were yet to collect details of loss caused by the floods.
