Over 150 houses reduced to ashes in Banke, Jumla fire incidents

Kathmandu, April 4

At least 155 houses have been reduced to ashes in different fire incidents in the Banke and Jumla districts of western Nepal on Saturday.

A fire spread out at Khodawa village in Narainapur rural municipality-4 of Banke in the Lumbini province on Saturday afternoon, destroying 120 houses completely, according to police.

Four persons sustained injuries in their efforts to contain the fire.

The fire that started at around 3:30 pm yesterday was taken under control after midnight only.

Preliminary investigations suggest it resulted in a loss of properties worth millions such as foodstuffs, wood, clothes, and cash. Five fire engines were deployed to put out the fire.

Police, however, are yet to make a detailed calculation, according to SP Om Bahadur Rana, the chief of the Banke District Police Office.

Meanwhile, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reports that 35 houses were destroyed in another fire incident at Dhipugaun, Tila rural municipality-9 of Jumla of Karnali on Saturday night.

The fire is yet to be taken under control for a want of sufficient water, informs ward chair Sher Bahadur Bohora.
