Kathmandu, January 19

A doctor working in the intensive care unit set up for the Covid-19 patients in the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital has been assaulted on Tuesday, allegedly by a patient’s kin after the patient died.

Dr Santa Kumar Das, the Covid-19 coordinator in the hospital, says Dr Sabin Bhandari was attacked by the deceased’s kin “due to miscommunication”.

Dr Das says the family members accused Dr Bhandari of admitting a patient who was coronavirus negative into the Covid-19 ICU. However, the patient had tested positive for the coronavirus also while he was sent to the National Public Health Laboratory for an influenza test although he had tested negative for the coronavirus in his hometown of Butwal, according to Dr Das.

He informs that the lab had not given the victim’s family the coronavirus PCR test report because the family had not paid for it, Dr Das claims.
