It took 40 minutes for CPN-UML chairperson candidate KP Sharma Oli and Ishwar Pokharel to cast their votes. According to technical staff, general secretary candidates Shankar Pokharel and Surendra Pandey also took a similar amount of time to vote.
Voting for the selection of new leadership under the party’s 11th General Convention began this morning at Bhrikutimandap. The process was formally inaugurated by senior party leaders. Oli, Pokharel and other leaders went together to cast their votes.
The Election Commission said e-voting machines are being used to elect the new leadership, with 80 machines deployed for the voting process.
After senior leaders cast their votes, other delegates began voting. Delegates are lining up and waiting for their turn to vote, while candidates are seeking votes from within the same queues.
Oli and Pokharel are contesting the election as part of a panel for the party’s new leadership.
