Nyatapol renovation begins

Kathmandu, December 12

The renovation of Nyatapol, a historic and popular five-storey temple in Taumadhi of Bhaktapur, has begun.

Bhaktapur municipality officially started the renovation of the 2015 earthquake-devastated temple on Wednesday. According to the municipality sources, the renovation of the temple in the World Heritage site of Bhaktapur Durbar Square began after forming a users’ committee.

Mayor Sunil Prajapati informs that the fifth municipal assembly of Bhaktapur took the decision to renovate the historical temple and allocated an estimated cost of Rs 6.51 million.

The 2015 earthquake had caused huge damages to the upper floor of the temple. The 1933 earthquake also had damaged the upper part of the temple.

Earlier, the late King Mahendra and the municipality itself had got the temple renovated twice. Keshab Tamakhu, Chairperson of Temple Preservation and Renovation Users’ Committee, says the committee has set a target to complete the renovation by coming mid-July.
