Nine members of two families found murdered in Panchthar

Nine members of two families have been murdered in Miklajung Rural Municipality in Panchthar, Province 1 on Monday night.

Police say a group of masked assailants murdered families of Dhanaraj Shorma and his father-in-law Bam Bahadur Phiyak using a sharp weapon. Only a teenage girl Sita Khajum, whose relation to the families is yet to be clear, managed to survive the fatal attack. However, police say she is severely injured.

The dead are: Dhanaraj, Jasmita Phiyak, Man Kumari Phiyak, Iksha Shorma, Yobana Shorma, Muna Shorma, Bam Bahadur and his wife, and Aashika Khajum Limbu.

District Police Office inspector Anil Paudel informed that the bodies of five members of Shorma family were found inside their house, while bodies of the four members of the Phiyak family were recovered outside. Locals say that they only found about the incident in the morning.

According to Paudel, survivor Sita told locals that a group of masked people broke into the house at midnight on Monday and killed the family members with sharp weapons. Ward chair of the village Hastaraj Phiyak confirmed the attack. He said that an investigation team was on its way from Jhapa to look into the case.
