Kathmandu, June 23
The anti-corruption constitutional body, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, has filed yet another corruption case against former bureaucrat Chudamani Sharma, already notorious for multiple corruption charges over the recent few years.
The case has been filed at the Special Court against Sharma, a former chief of the Inland Revenue Department, along with other officials of the then Tax Settlement Commission, namely Lumba Dhwaj Mahat and Umesh Prasad Dhakal.
The commission’s spokesperson Narayan Prasad Risal says it found the three officials decided for the exemption of Rs 1.003 billion in taxes with mala fide intent to serve their vested interest, resulting in a loss to the state.
Their act amounted to an offence as defined by the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002, says the commission. The commission has demanded the trio be made to return the embezzled amount and serve in jail for eight to 10 years.
